Powerful Prayers for Your Pre-Schooler or Kindergartener’s First School Year

The first year of school is more than an academic milestone for your child who is just starting off Kindergarten or Pre-School, it’s the beginning of a journey that shapes your child’s heart, mind, and character.

As a Christian parent, prayer is one of the most powerful tools you have to cover your child during this transition.

Whether your child is starting pre-school or kindergarten, here are five intentional prayers to guide you as you commit their school year into God’s hands.

Heavenly Father,

I pray that my child will have a heart that is open to learning - humble, curious, and eager to grow. Remove fear, pride, or comparison from their heart. May they listen well, receive correction with grace, and delight in discovering new things. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Lord,

I place my child under Your divine protection. Watch over them as they travel to and from school, play on the playground, and move through their day. Surround them with teachers and friends who will bring out the best in them. Keep them safe from harm, illness, and negative influences. Amen.

Father,

Bring the right friends into my child’s life—those who are kind, encouraging, and respectful. Protect them from unhealthy influences. May their friendships be life-giving, building them up in love and truth. Amen.

Lord,

Let learning be a joyful experience for my child. Fill them with excitement for new discoveries and help them persevere through challenges. Let every day be an opportunity to see Your creativity and goodness in the world around them. Amen.

Father,
Calm my child’s heart when they feel nervous or overwhelmed. Replace anxiety with Your peace and fear with courage. May they walk into each day knowing You are with them, guiding and loving them. Amen.
