“Give me understanding [a teachable heart and the ability to learn], that I may keep Your law; And observe it with all my heart.” – Psalms 119:34
Are you teachable? Just before you respond to that, let’s dig a little deeper now, shall we?
Do you find yourself struggling with change of any kind? Do you find it tough to accept help from others? Do you get a tiny bit upset when someone wants to correct you or show you the right way to do something?
It was John Maxwell who once said, if you desire to grow you must cultivate a teachable spirit. To be teachable implies that you're always willing to listen, learn and apply the lessons from what you've learned. It demonstrates that you're hungry for growth and development
As God’s children who desire to take our instructions and leadership from Him, a teachable heart is one of our greatest assets. If you must take your work to the next level, you must imbibe this heart that desires change and want to grow through learning. You must be willing to learn from anything and everyone, you can't always be right.
Successful people who desire to go higher in life are teachable. This accounts for why God blessed Abraham. More than anything else, he valued instruction and a willingness to keep the commandments of God. Such a desire is much more than just a willingness to listen. We become teachable when our desire to receive wisdom is greater than our desire for comfort.
Teachability is not so much about competence and mental capacity as it is about attitude. It is the desire to listen, learn, and apply. It is the hunger to discover and grow. It is the willingness to learn, unlearn, and relearn.
The greatest enemy of learning is knowing (no, you can't know it all). And the goal of all learning is action, not knowledge. If what you are doing does not in some way contribute to what you or others are learning in life, then question its value and be prepared to make changes.
So, this week, find opportunities that prepare you to embrace change and a willingness to learn and grow.
Prayer Moment
• I ask that you help me run my enterprise efficiently, and with the wisdom to recognize and accept the changes that await me.
• I know you will speak to me when I’m lost and give me comfort when there are trials.
• Please grant me the knowledge for the things I don’t know and help me serve my customers and clients with a heart like yours.
• I will shine Your light in all that I do and make sure my clients will feel it whenever they interact with me and the work you have committed to my hands.
• Help me stand by my faith and values in my enterprise in all situations and tribulations.
