Napoleon Hill once said, “A goal is a dream with a deadline,” and we can’t help but feel a sense of urgency to achieve what we’ve set out to do. This helps us stay accountable and maintain momentum, but what happens when we’ve done everything we can and are still left waiting for the results?
As Christian moms, we know that life can feel like one long season of waiting. Whether it's waiting for a breakthrough, an answer to prayer, or the right timing for an important decision, the waiting can feel heavy—like a wall standing between us and what we hope for. But the Bible offers a beautiful perspective on the waiting seasons, teaching us valuable lessons about patience, faith, and trust in God's timing.

Two Types of Waiting: The Waiting with Purpose and the Waiting with No End in Sight
There are two types of waiting we often experience in life:
- The Waiting with an Obvious Deadline: This is the kind of waiting where we know exactly when the end will come—like waiting for a meeting or a specific event. It’s easier to endure because we can see the finish line in sight.
- The Waiting with No Clear End: This is the kind of waiting where the answer isn’t obvious, and the future feels uncertain. This waiting can cause weariness in the heart, and if we’re not careful, it can lead to despair.

What Do the Bible Heroes Teach Us About Waiting?
As believers, we have the privilege of looking back on the lives of biblical figures who faced similar seasons of waiting. Their experiences provide valuable lessons for us today.
Even Jesus Himself waited until He was 30 to begin His public ministry. And today, we continue to wait for the return of Christ. Waiting is not just a part of life—it’s an essential element of God’s plan.
- Sarah waited years for God’s promise of a child. In her impatience, she took matters into her own hands by offering Hagar to Abraham. How might we handle the waiting when God’s promises seem delayed?
- Noah waited for the floodwaters to recede, relying on God’s instructions rather than his own judgment to leave the ark. Do we trust God's guidance, even when circumstances seem to say otherwise?
- Hannah faced mockery and despair, yet she never gave up on praying for a child. Her persistence teaches us to keep praying, even when others don’t understand.
- Joseph waited in a foreign land, facing trials that seemed unfair, yet he remained faithful to God. How often do we face tests that challenge our trust in God’s timing?
- David was anointed as king but spent years running for his life, waiting for God’s promise to be fulfilled. Are we willing to wait for God’s perfect timing, even when the wait is long?

How Should We Wait?
The Bible teaches us that how we wait is just as important as the wait itself. In the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13), five were prepared with extra oil for their lamps, while the other five ran out of oil and missed the Bridegroom’s arrival. The oil represents the Holy Spirit in our lives. As we wait, we must stay spiritually prepared by keeping in step with the Holy Spirit, receiving His Word, and actively loving and obeying God.
In Habakkuk 2:3 (TLB), we’re reminded that God’s promises won’t happen right away. His plans unfold slowly, steadily, and surely. Even when it feels like the wait is too long, God’s promises will never be overdue.

“But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!”
The Power of Waiting with Faith
Waiting doesn’t have to feel like a wall. It can be a season of growth, learning, and trusting in God's perfect timing. The waiting period is an opportunity for us to draw closer to God, renew our faith, and prepare ourselves for what’s ahead.
As Christian moms, we can choose to make the waiting a time of spiritual nourishment, building our trust in God’s faithfulness.
